Jeffrey Higgins Wins Event 12 ($39,104)

Event 12 of the Foxwoods Poker Classic was the $1,200 NLH event with a $125,000 guarantee. There were a total of 138 entries to create a prize pool of over $145,000.

Jeffrey Higgins got off to a hot start on Day 1 and he never looked back. He managed to bag the overall Day 1 chip lead with 713,500.

Higgins continued to chip up from the start of Day 2 play but then there were a few bumps in the road. Higgins relinquished his lead to Aleksey Filatov and John Caputo at times but he battled back to earn the victory.

Higgins takes home $39,000 which is his largest live career tournament cash and can now put his first Foxwoods Classic trophy next to his WSOP Circuit ring.

Aleksey Filatov
Aleksey Filatov moved all in for his last 420,000 and Jeff Higgins made the call. Filatov turned over 6♣️3♣️ but would need to improve against the A♦️J♠️ of Higgins.

The A♥️8♥️2♠️ flop all but sealed the fate of Filatov. He paired his three on the 3♥️ but the J♥️ river improved Higgins two pair to earn him the pot and the victory. Filatov is our Event 12 runner up earning $25,553.

He certainly earned the respect of his table mates especially Higgins."That man is a machine" Higgins said about his opponent as the two shook hands following their heads up match.

It didn't take long for all of the chips to get in the middle here in our Event 12 heads up match. Jeff Higgins check raised all in for nearly 1,500,000 in one of the first hands of heads up play.

Aleksey Filatov snap called turning over Q♣️Q♦️ and Higgins showed A♦️5♦️. There was an ace in the window on the A♣️9♥️3♦️ flop and Filatov sat silently shaking his head. Higgins moved into the lead and was Filatov now looking to improve.

The turn brought the 4♦️ and the K♣️ completed the board. Higgins doubled up and now holds a massive chip lead with 2,950,000 of the 3,450,000 in play.

John Caputo
John Caputo limps in from the small blind and Jeff Higgins raises to 80,000. With the action back on Caputo he moves all in for about 600,000 and Higgins quickly calls.

Higgins pairs his ace in the window to take control of the hand on the A♥️6♥️2♠️ flop. The turn Q♠️ improves Higgins to top two pair leaving Caputo drawing dead. The meaningless 7♠️ hits the river and Caputo is sent to the rail in 3rd place earning $17,071.

Aleksey Filatov raises to 50,000 and John Caputo calls from the small blind. Jeff Higgins calls from the big and they see a flop of A♥️J♣️6♦️. The action checks around and the turn is the 4♣️. 

Caputo leads out with a bet of 80,000 and Higgins folds. Filatov calls and the river is the 4
♥️. Caputo fires out a bet of 120,000 and after some thought Filatov raises to 400,000.

Caputo instantly fires his hand into the muck and Filatov scoops the pot. "Why couldn't you have it that time" Filatov says. "I missed my straight to tell you the truth" Caputo responds.

In one of the last hands before the dinner break John Caputo and Aleksey Filatov were involved in a preflop raising war. The end result was Caputo moving all in for 713,000 and Filatov making the call.

Caputo was holding A♦️A♥️ against the Q♥️Q♦️ of Filatov. The board ran out clean for Caputo and he moves into the lead just as the Event 12 players head out on a one hour dinner break.

Derek Chin
We catch up to the action on the 8♥️7♦️3♠️ flop and Aleksey Filatov bets 60,000. Derek Chin makes the call and they go heads up to the 3♥️ turn.

Filatov takes his time before checking and Chin moves all in for 319,000. Filatov thinks it over for a bit and slides out the calling chips.

Chin turns over 6♠️7♠️ but Filatov's J♥️8♦️ is best. Chin will need a seven on the river to stay alive but the 8♠️ completes the board improving Filatov to a full house. Chin is sent to the rail in 4th place and Aleksey Filatov is back on top with just three players left in the hunt.
